Dear Teenager, I Need A Favour: Please Be a VAB.
Merry Christmas! Hope you are having a great holiday with your family and friends.
My name is Aunty Salt and I'm writing this letter to you because I need a Favour. I know you don't like long boring letters so I'll try to keep this short. I promise. *smiling*
I'm seeking young people like you to take a stand in 2016 against any form of bullying you witness in your school. Bullying, especially verbal bullying or 'yabbing' is becoming so rampant in schools these days and I'd like to invite you to be a "VAB Teen". VAB? What does that mean? It means you will be a:
A Voice Against Bullying.
Can you? Will you? I hope so and I hope you will tell your friends about your decision. And get them to be VABs too. Bullying is mean and it's pushing kids like you into very sad places. Bullying goes beyond hitting our pushing. Here are types of bullying to watch out for when you go back to school after the holidays:
Hitting, kicking, or pushing someone...or even just threatening to do it
Stealing, hiding, or ruining someone's things
Harassment, humiliation. Making someone do things he or she doesn't want to do.
Verbal bullying (In Schools, it's called "Yabbing")
Name-calling, Teasing, taunting
Insulting or otherwise verbally abusing someone
Relationship bullying (Girls are experts at this generally)
Refusing to talk to someone
Excluding someone from groups or activities
Spreading lies or rumors about someone
My Dear Teenager, bullying may seem like fun but anything that hurts people's feelings is not funny. Do you know some kids have gone on to harm themselves because of bullying? Some even kill themselves! Can we sit by and let this happen? No we can't!
So please when ever you see bullying happening, speak up! Intervene nicely. If you can't get the bullies to stop, go tell a teacher. Or the Head boy or girl. Or the House Master or Mistress. And please if you are being bullied, tell your parents. Bullies win because we stay silent. That has to stop! And that's why I'm sending you this letter. To seek your support.
Are you with me? Will you be a VAB? I can only thank you but I'm certain God will be super proud of you and will reward your care and concern for others big time.
Love you but God loves you way more.
P.S. If you read this my dear Teen and your cheeks are burning with shame because you look at the lists up there and realise you are a Bully. The fact that you feel uncomfortable/bad is promising. Please commit to changing your ways. Go to your trusted Adult- Mom, Dad, Teacher or Sunday School teacher and talk it over. You can inbox me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want. I'll be happy to help as best I can.
PS II. Moms, Dads, please print out for your Teens or send to them. We are all in this together. Let's work to make our schools bullying and Yabbing-free. The schools can't do this alone.
Thank you so much!
