I Shall Lean In: A Salt Review of Sheryl Sandberg's "Lean In"
"A Feminist is someone who believes in the social, political and economic equality of the sexes" page 159.
In this case, I'm a feminist and I just love books that raise my consciousness about myself, awaken fresh desire in me to reach for my "Greater" and make me laugh out loud. Sheryl Sandberg's book, "Lean In" hit a home run on all three counts. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and recommend it to all women. And not just women in the corporate world. All women; all of us need to listen to Sheryl because personally, I think we are all in one way or another, at home or at work, leaning back. It's time to lean in. Or if you like, it's time to press forward towards being ALL we were created to be. And we must do this in spite of all the barriers society knowingly or unknowingly has put in our paths.
Be that as it may, guess what? We, all by ourselves, are actually our own stiffest barrier! I know! How can? I promise, read this book and like me, I bet you recognize yourself in it somewhere or the other. If you don't, I will refund you the money you spent buying it.
What's the question of all questions these days? Can a working woman, mom and wife have it all? Well, Sheryl and many other working moms (whose stories she shares in the book) are finding a way to be content with their own "all" but truth is there is no " perfect all". Sheryl says it's a myth and I agree. Maybe you will too once you read the book. Do order a copy today and read it. It's loaded with information that if applied wisely has the potential to positively transform the way you go about your business at work and at home.
And, my dear brother...yes, you. If you care about the women in your life, please read this book. Be one of the men out there that will lean in at work to NOT contribute to all the gender-induced issues women deal with and lean in at home to be a "real partner" to his wife. What's a real partner? One that does not think housework and taking care of the children is purely 'wifey's job'. We have proven that what a man can do in the work place women can do better. It's time men began showing that what women do at home, they too can do. Don't you agree?
I rest my Salt case.
Gender bias is real. We can't deny it. Read 'Lean In' today and you will understand better how you can rise above it and how we all can fight it so others coming behind us don't have to.
